As I continue to study the book of Isaiah, I have to ponder on the idea of what life would be like if we followed the laws of our Lord Almighty. In today’s reading:
Isaiah 1:19 If ye be willing and obedient , ye shall eat the good of the land:
Definition of willing: not refusing to do something
Definition of obedient: willing to obey (to follow the commands or guidance of)
I searched obey and found the following:
Deuteronomy 11:27 states: A blessing, if ye obey the commandments of the LORD your God, which I command you this day
Job 36:11 states: If they obey and serve him, they shall spend their days in prosperity, and their years in pleasures.
Genesis 26: 4-5 state: 4 And I will make thy seed to multiply as the stars of heaven, and will give unto thy seed all these countries; and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; 5 Because that Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws.
What are the commandments we are to keep:
Here in Exodus 20 is what God tells us:
1 And God spake all these words, saying, 2 I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me. 4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: 5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; 6 And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments. 7 Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain. 8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days shalt thou labour , and do all thy work: 10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: 11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it. 12 Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee. 13 Thou shalt not kill. 14 Thou shalt not commit adultery. 15 Thou shalt not steal. 16 Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour. 17 Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour’s.
I am reminded of the gospel song: Trust and Obey by John Sammis 1887
When we walk with the Lord in the light of His Word,
What a glory He sheds on our way!
While we do His good will, He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey.
Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.
What glory, eat the good of the land, blessings, prosperity, and pleasures he (Father Almighty) will shed our way if we just trust and obey.
Thank you for joining me on Day 2 for the study on the Book of Isaiah.
Father God, please help me to remember your commandments, help me to trust and obey and allow me to share the insights of my study on the Book of Isaiah. I pray for my family and friends and for our nation to obey your commandments which you have provided. Clearly you will shed glory, allow us to eat the good of the land, provide us blessings, prosperity and pleasures if we just trust and obey. Thank you for your Word, grace and mercy. Amen.
