Day 3: the study of the Book of Isaiah 1:21 – 3:26
Today’s reading of Isaiah, we read what happens when Judah and Jerusalem turn away from the commandments of our Lord.
We read in:
Isaiah 3:5 the child shall behave himself proudly against the ancient, and the base against the honourable
As parents, we set rules and commandments for our children for their well-being and safety. We commonly are saying, “Don’t touch”, “It’s hot”, “Stop and look both ways before crossing the street”, “Don’t hit”, “Don’t bite”, “Don’t talk back”, “Don’t curse”, “Make your bed”, “Put your toys away” and on and on. We have a set of rules and standards for safety, well-being and order. Let’s admit it, we all want to see our children grow into productive adults who will contribute to society for a world of love and security. Without standards, rules and commandments a society falls into corruption and chaos.
Chaos definition: state of confusion or disorder
In Colossians 3:6 and 3:20 we read: children obey your parents which are pleasing unto the Lord and the wrath of God cometh on children of disobedience.
While studying the bible what happens to a nation/people who are not obedient. Let’s read:
Leviticus 26:14-16 states: but if you will not listen to me and carry out all these commands, 15 and if you reject my decrees and abhor my laws and fail to carry out all my commands and so violate my covenant, 16 then I will do this to you: (more….)
Psalm 78: 10-11 states: they kept no the covenant of God, and refused to walk in his law; 11 and forgot his works, and his wonders that he had shewed them. (more…..)
Joshua 5:6 states: For the children of Israel walked forty years in the wilderness, till all the people that were men of war, which came out of Egypt, were consumed, because they obeyed not the voice of the LORD:
While reading the story of Jonah 4:11. We see Jonah was disobedient and went the opposite direction of what the Lord had told him.
As I continue to study the bible what happens to a nation/people who are obedient. Let’s read:
Back to Jonah, he gets his heart right and he preached to the Gentiles and the people turned back to the Lord. The story of Johan shows God’s love and compassion for not only Johan being resurrected from the dead but also for the people of Ninevah.
We read in Hebrews 11:8-11 Abraham and Sarah being faithful and they receive a blessing due to their obedience. Hebrews 11
In 1 Peter 1:22-25 obeying truth leads to blessings of the gospel. 1 Peter 1
Again in Revelations 22:14 it reads: Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life.
Perhaps our nation/people are in chaos because our Lord is waiting for us to turn back to him, seek him and be faithful to his commandments.
Will the Lord show compassion for his people/this nation just as he did Johan and Ninevah? After all in II Peter 3:9 we read: not willing for any should perish but ALL should come to repentance. The Lord wants us to turn back to him, so none should perish.
Father God, Thank you for today’s study on Isaiah. I can see we are a nation/people turning our back on you and we need to seek you now more than ever. Please continue to show us compassion, love, grace and mercy. Amen.
