Tuesday’s Needle in the Haystack

1 John 5:12

“He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.”

1 John is a definite read if you want to understand how not to be separated from God for eternally.  May you continue not to lean unto your own understanding and search the living word of God.

Revelation 4:11

“Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.

May you not lean unto your own understanding and search the word of the living God. I pray today you ask God how you can please him.

Song of the Day – It is Well

It is Well With My Soul is penned by hymnist Horatio Spafford and composed by Philip Bliss.  It was first published in 1876. The hymn was written after a traumatic even in Spafford’s life.  The first was the death of his son at age 2 and the second was the 1871 Great Chicago Fire, which ruined him financially.  (Information found on Wikipedia)

It is Well

When peace like a river, attendeth my way,
When sorrows like sea billows roll
Whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to say
It is well, it is well, with my soul

It is well
With my soul
It is well, it is well with my soul

Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come,
Let this blest assurance control,
That Christ has regarded my helpless estate,
And hath shed His own blood for my soul

It is well (it is well)
With my soul (with my soul)
It is well, it is well with my soul

My sin, oh, the bliss of this glorious thought
My sin, not in part but the whole,
Is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more,
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, o my soul

It is well (it is well)
With my soul (with my soul)
It is well, it is well with my soul

II Peter “Stir you up”

As I continue my 17 weeks of studying 17 New Testament books, I found II Peter to be an epistle of encouragement.

2 Peter 1:13

“Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance;”
Who is Peter:
  • Fisherman of the sea
  • He is the brother of Andrew
  • One of the 12 apostles
  • He walks on water only to doubt Jesus and begins to sink
  • Peter confesses Jesus Christ is the Son of the living God
  • Peter sees Jesus transfigured
  • Peter falls to his face and is afraid when he hears a voice from a bright cloud which overshadows.  The voice of God states, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.”
  • Peter denies Jesus three times, just as Jesus states Peter would do
  • Peter remembers what Jesus told him he would do and weeps bitterly (Peter repents)
    • II Corinthians 7:10 For Godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.
  • Peter’s first sermon is found in Acts 2:14-21
  • Peter is persecuted for his preaching of the truth found in Acts 4
  • Peter’s ministry to the Gentiles found in Acts 11
  • Peter speaks about the law and the Gentiles found in Acts 15:7-11
  • Peter comforts the church and exhorts to holy living in both his epistles I Peter and II Peter
  • Peter suffers for the believe of Christ

Peter stirs us up to remember believing in Christ may be one thing but living out a life like Christ is not always easy.  Just as Peter, we still live in a time where believing and living a life of Christ has cost us persecution and for some death.

However, just as Peter, we need to remember God is faithful and keeps his promises. The Lord will come back for us as read in:

2 Peter Chapter 3

8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day [is] with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

May today be the day you are willing not to perish and have eternal life with our Father God.

2 Chronicles 7:14

“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”
