Verses for Sunday followers

Peaceful soul!

I head down the blacktop road slightly faster than normal.  Once again, I am rushing against time. I feel the air brush past my lips and my hair flips along the way. I inhale just long enough to pause and realize there is a feeling of calm and peacefulness in my gait. I gaze in the distance to see the clouds rolling away and again feel the air sweep past my face. I take a deep breathe and suddenly the chirps and the tweets of my morning friends are alive all around me. I allow myself to say, “Thank you, Lord!”  I am in such awe of the world you made and all the beauty which encompasses me on my morning routine.  I head around the corner and my destination comes into view.  I allow the morning sun to warm me and soothe my aging bones. I am reminded of my many blessings which I take for granted and I am grateful for the simple pleasures in life. My destination is here: my bus stop.  It’s time for another day to do the Lord’s will.

Psalm 118:24

King James Version (KJV)

This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.

Living a Mary or a Martha Life

Luke 10:38-42 KJV

38 Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house.

39 And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus’ feet, and heard his word.

40 But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me.

41 And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things:

42 But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.

Can you imagine being Mary or Martha, knowing that Jesus was coming to your home?  How would you respond?  Would you be worried, nervous, carefree, calm, composed or tranquil?

I think my mind would be going a hundred miles a minute.  Did I remember fresh water?  Did I make sure the food was fresh? Did I know there was a soft clean place for him to sit?  Did my surroundings look clean and inviting?  Did I, did I, did I?

As we read Luke 10, we see Martha is cumbered.  Meaning: hinder; hamper. overload; burden. inconvenience; trouble.
When have you been cumbered?  For myself, work can be a place of overload and I can leave with a heavy burden of not getting a deadline done or a task complete. At times, I am asked to help out and find myself saying, no as it seems like to much of a hindrance.
These are the times, I know I need to reach for my bible and read. I know if I am open to the Holy Spirit, I will read what I need to know.  It might not be the exact answer, I thought I needed but I do know it is exactly what God wanted for me to read.
Thus the next time you feel like a Martha read Psalm 56:22 Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never sever the righteous to be moved.
Mary sat at Jesus’ feet and heard his word.  Mary was totally engaged in taking every word, syllabub, sound, vowel and letter and letting them seep into her ears, head, heart and soul; she was tranquil and full of love for Jesus.  When was the last time you allowed Jesus to seep into your soul?
In today’s world, we need Marthas to serve and Marys to listen but in order to serve Jesus Christ faithfully and with a joyful heart we need to be a Mary and listen and take in all that Jesus has to teach us.
My prayer for you today:  May you be a Mary and have opened your heart to the love of Jesus Christ.  Do you know Jesus as your personal Saviour and Lord?
John 20:31 But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have a life through his name.
Do you believe?

My Summer Findings of 2014

Hello my fellow bloggers:

It’s been awhile since I have blogged but this is not to say I have not been continuing my study in the Word of our Almighty Lord. I have three different areas I would like to blog about over the next few weeks:

Living as a Mary or a Martha Life
Hope in Today’s World
Patience is Lacking in Our Lives

I want to start with: Living as a Mary or a Martha LifeMarthaAndMary172x250
