Victory

As I sit here in the stillness of my open office, the printer humming, the lights bright and the skies grey; I think about Sunday’s sermon.  The topic was on: VICTORY

How can I have victory in my life?  Do you have victory in your life?  Is it so far beyond reach we continue to search and search and feel we have yet to see it, feel it or have it?

Webster’s Dictionary states:

VICTORY – the overcoming of an enemy or antagonist-(one that is hostile toward another)

I listened intently on Sunday and heard the following:

V – value Christ for who he is (100% God and 100% man)

  • Value: to regard highly.

I – involvement in Christ- read the Bible every day, pray, attend church and witness to others.

  • Note to self: If you do nothing, why do you expect God to do something for you?

C – committed –  100% to Christ

  • Committed: to pledge oneself

T –  temperance –  saying no to sin (sin: deliberate disobedience to the known will of God)

  • Temperance: to have self-control over thoughts, words and actions.

O – obedience – obey the voice of God

  • Singing the song: Trust and Obey by John H Sammis, 1887
  • This is a clear explanation of living the Christian life.
    • When we walk with the Lord in the light of His Word,
      What a glory He sheds on our way!
      While we do His good will, He abides with us still,
      And with all who will trust and obey.
    • Refrain
    • Trust and obey, for there’s no other way
      To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.
    • Not a shadow can rise, not a cloud in the skies,
      But His smile quickly drives it away;
      Not a doubt or a fear, not a sigh or a tear,
      Can abide while we trust and obey.
    • Refrain
    • Not a burden we bear, not a sorrow we share,
      But our toil He doth richly repay;
      Not a grief or a loss, not a frown or a cross,
      But is blessed if we trust and obey.
    • Refrain
    • But we never can prove the delights of His love
      Until all on the altar we lay;
      For the favor He shows, for the joy He bestows,
      Are for them who will trust and obey.
    • Refrain
    • Then in fellowship sweet we will sit at His feet.
      Or we’ll walk by His side in the way.
      What He says we will do, where He sends we will go;
      Never fear, only trust and obey.
    • Refrain

R – remember where you were and how far you have come in your journey with Christ

Y – yoke up with Christ.

  • Your burdens and loads

Matthew 11:28-30: Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take me yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

1 Corinthians 15:57: But thanks be to God, which giveth us the VICTORY through our Lord Jesus Christ.

1corinthians15_57

2 Samuel 22:3 The God of my rock; in him will I trust: he is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my savior; thou savest me from violence.

Deuteronomy 20:4 – For the LORD your God is he that goeth with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.

Victory does not mean I give my left overs to Christ.

Remember: No one is a failure if you have Jesus in your life.

I have found VICTORY through my Lord and Saviour.  Praise God for all his blessings, he has poured on my life, for I am nothing without him.
