Luke Chapter 4 – My Study Notes

Luke_19-10

S.O.A.K. method – Scripture which speaks to my hear, observation, application and kneel in prayer.

S: 13 And when the devil had ended all the temptation, he departed from him for a season.

O: Jesus is tempted at his weakest moment. He is hungry and tired. However, Jesus still preaches the word of God. As the word is his shield against the devil.

Deuteronomy 8:3 And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD doth man live.

He tells Satan to get behind him.

James 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you).

A: Satan uses our own desires against us in hopes of doing wrong. (

James 1:13,14 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.

We may even tempt God and question him.

1 Corinthians 10:9 Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed of serpents.

God may test us but never to appeal us to evil.

Hebrews 11:17 By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son.

We need to be strong in the word as Satan may leave us for a short while and work on someone else’s heart and lives but he returns again and again.

K: Lord, I seek your will and your word today to remind me of how Satan tempts us and tries to trick us into seeing something wrong as good. I pray I can be better equipped with scripture to help me fight off those who are evil and against me. Amen.

May you continue to search the word of our living God and not lean unto your own understanding.

Luke Chapter 3 – My Study Notes

Luke_19-10

S.O.A.K.  Scripture which speaks to my heart, observation, application and kneel in prayer

Chap 3

S: 23-38 For me I love the genealogy of Mary.

O: This is a means of a scientific fact that proves this is not a made up story.

A: Many times I will hear nonbelievers state something about how can you believe a book written years ago and how do you not know it’s just a bunch of made up stories. The Holy Bible is a historical preserved book. That in itself gives me the goosebumps because I own something so valuable that I can’t even put a price on it.

K: Lord, thank you for preserving your word for all who want to read and know you better. I continue to lift up the names of the ladies in our group and pray you would touch their hearts to read your word everyday. Even if it’s just a verse but something so they will start to get to know you better and feel the love and blessings you will provide. Our lives seem to be busy and distractions seem to get in the way, but I pray each one of the ladies would take time and set it aside just for you. Jesus died for each of us so we would not spend eternity away from you. For me, one way to show you how much I am thankful and grateful is reading your word each and everyday. With love and thanks I give you all praise, glory and honor Lord. Amen.

May you continue to search the word of our living Saviour and not lean unto your own understanding.

Luke Chapter 2 – My Study Notes

Luke_19-10

S.O.A.K. Method – Scripture which speaks to my heart, Observation, Application and Kneel in prayer

S: 12 And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.

O: Dr De Young shared this and I wanted to share it with you ladies: Dr. Luke records what the angel said to the shepherds, that they would find the newborn babe, “God-man”, Jesus Christ, “in a manger wrapped in swaddling clothes”.

For the longest time I could not understand why that would be a “sign” to the shepherds. Then one day I ran across a comment about the connection to the sign in a place in the Shepherd’s Fields called the “Tower of the Flock”.

In the Hebrew, the phrase is, “Migdal Edar.” “Migdal” is Hebrew for “tower” and “Edar” is “flock” in the Hebrew language. The phrase is only used twice in the Bible – Genesis 35:21 and Micah 4:8.

In the Genesis passage, “Migdal Edar” is referring to the location where Jacob pitched his tent after he buried his wife Rachel who had died in childbirth. “Migdal Edar” is on the road between Bethlehem, where Rachel was buried, and the city of Jerusalem, which is only three miles away.

The other mention of “Migdal Edar” or “tower of the flock” in Micah 4:8 is a prophecy that the announcement of the Messiah would be at “Migdal Edar”. This location, “Migdal Edar”, has been known by the religious Jews for centuries, as the place where the announcement of the “Messiah” will take place.

I must tell you that “Migdal Edar” was a watchtower in the Shepherd’s Fields of Bethlehem. It was a two-story stone structure out in the fields. On the top story, a shepherd, a “priestly shepherd” would stand watching over the flock to make certain that the sheep were not being harmed.

Remember, the sheep raised in the Shepherd’s Fields of Bethlehem were destined for the “temple sacrifice” three miles away. Also, these sheep must be without blemish or spot, perfect in order to be sacrificed. Bethlehem’s “shepherd’s fields” was the “holding pen for the sacrificial lambs”.

The bottom floor of “Migdal Edar” was for the “birthing” of these lambs. From the beginning, these lambs must be perfect. The “priestly shepherd” would take the newborn lamb and wrap it in “swaddling clothes” to keep it from harming its limbs. After wrapping the baby lamb, the shepherd would lay it in a “manger” until the newborn had calmed down.

These priestly shepherds knew this procedure and, when told it would be ab sign, they re-called Micahn 4:8 and with haste, Luke 2:16, ran to see the newborn Jesus, the Son of God.

A: How many of us know how to be truly humble and fully obedient to the Lord?

K: Lord I want to continue my journey knowing you more and more each day. Keep me humble in your word and allow me to be a servant for your will.

May you continue to search the living word of God and not lean unto your own understanding.

Luke – My Study Notes – Chapter 1

Luke_19-10

S.O.A.K. Method – Scripture which speaks to my heart, observe, application and kneel in prayer.

Chapter  1

S: 35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.

O: This is a clear representation of the trinity. Notice- The Holy Ghost will come upon thee, The Highest (God the Father) will overshadow thee and the Son of God will be born to thee.

A: Many times people refer to God, Jesus and Holy Spirit as separate identities. However, we know this is not true. It’s beyond my comprehension that all three are one but I have faith and believe what God is sharing with me.

K: Father God, thank you for your word so we are able to learn and grow as Christians. Thank you for leaving us a book full of promises and answers. All we need to do is search and know you are always there with us in the midst. For this, I am truly thankful and feel blessed. Amen.
